The look
Every loop is a fluid simulation: a velocity field that carries two inks and heat, with small eddies spun back up so the ink curls. Each kick drops, jets or puffs fresh ink into it, heat rises and ink sinks, and the result is shaded as ink on paper, glowing smoke or molten metal.
None of this is an app effect: the pattern is the simulation itself. Get the app to play these loops as clips with its effects on top, following your own music.
Load them into your software
- Resolume. Drag the MP4 into a clip slot. For the smoothest playback, convert it to DXV with Resolume’s free Alley first. Every loop is 32 beats long, so set the clip’s beat count to 32 and it follows your BPM.
- VDMX, MadMapper, Millumin. Drop the file into the media bin and set it to loop. The last frame leads straight back into the first, so there is no jump at the join.
- TouchDesigner. A Movie File In TOP plays them as they are; drive its speed from your beat if you want the pulses to lock to a different tempo.
- ImmerGround. Load a loop into the video engine and map the bass to zoom or a beat to a sting: the app adds live reactions to your real music on top of the pulses already in the file.

Every loop is released under CC0: use it in shows, streams, music videos, client work and anything else, commercial included, with no credit and no email. A link back to this page is appreciated, never required.
How they are made
The source footage is abstract scenes we generate in code: liquid metal, a tunnel, orbs, waveforms, a grid, and for the dither and halftone pack, ordered dither, one-bit noise, a halftone screen, contour lines and braille dots. Each frame then runs through the same effect shaders as the ImmerGround app, the thermal palettes, ASCII, glitch and slice, with pulses timed to a 120 BPM grid. Every movement completes a whole number of times per loop, so a 16-second loop ends exactly where it began. Two packs are simulated instead. Living matter is grown by reaction-diffusion, two chemicals feeding on and eating each other, with fresh growth dropped on every kick. Ink and smoke is a fluid simulation: two inks and heat carried by moving water or air, with every kick firing a jet of ink or a puff of smoke. A simulation never returns to where it started, so the last beat of each of these loops blends into its first, and they loop without a jump too. The files are silent.
Want the effects reacting to your own music instead of a fixed grid? The free live visualizer runs them in your browser from your mic or a song.
More free packs
- Thermal VJ loops. Heat-camera palettes on liquid metal, a tunnel, orbs, waveforms and a grid, pulsing on every beat.
- ASCII and glitch VJ loops. Character grids, currency signs, RGB split, datamosh slices and pixel bursts, all landing on the beat.
- Dither and halftone VJ loops. Ordered dither, one-bit noise, halftone ink, contour lines and braille dots, pulsing on the beat.
- Living matter VJ loops. Coral, mazes, spots and splitting cells, grown by a chemical simulation that pulses on the beat.
